Breeze & Styles - Heartbeatz (Specialist Sound Remix)

Is a DJ-FRIENDLY version of this available for purchase? Anyone? Bueller?

I can only find it (legitimately) as part of a mixed compilation, Clubland X-Treme Hardcore 6, which isn’t really what I want.

Old Tune Alert: The New Zealand Story (CLSM Remix)

I was reminded of this incredible tune this morning when I saw a new trancey remix posted on SoundCloud, and figure it deserves a post. (Go and listen to the new remix, it’s really good, but this post is about CLSM’s epic remix from a while back.)

Wizbit & Ponder - The New Zealand Story (CLSM Chavbots From Outta Space Remix)

To quote a review on discogs…

New Zealand Story was such a huge hit in it’s own right, but this remix is massive. The breakdown and buildup is almost comically huge. Production is top notch and the beat arrangement is fantastic.

You can buy an MP3 of the Lucky Breaks classic over here at the CLSM MP3 Store.

(Dubstep) tunes to look out for, June 2010

Hello internets! It’s been far too long since our last post, but fear not! We’re plotting a comeback of sorts, so don’t give up on us yet!

For now though, here are a few tunes from YouTube-land that I, for one, can’t wait to get my hands on….

First up, an incredible collaboration between Joker and TC:

Joker & TC - It Ain’t Got A Name

Next, a teaser for a tune that we can only hope will be released on Never Say Die sooner rather than later:

SKisM - Rave Review (Teaser)

PS: hardcore did it first.

Lastly, a ridiculous Passion Pit remix from Israel’s Borgore. (Yeah, we really like Passion Pit.)

Passion Pit - Sleepyhead (Borgore Remix)

Watch the synth at the drop on this one; it’s secretly a “Live to Tell the Tale” remix as well.

EDIT: Whoa! this one actually got released today.

Leela - I Love Being Invincible (HHC/DNB Mix)

I probably should have posted this here when it was new… but I didn’t. After not releasing a demo in almost 3 years (as my super hero rave dj alter ego Leela) I was finally able to come up with something back in November that I’m still 92% happy with. It’s 37 tracks and pretty silly - clocking in at some ridiculously high bpm. Enjoy.

Hey guys! It’s been a minute since I put out a mix on this here internets… but here’s a new one with a bunch of the choons that I’ve been playing out and about lately! It’s 37 tracks, jam packed with action and romance. Seriously.

Leela - I Love Being Invincible
(ode to choons, rips, mashups, quick mixes, and the +16% button)

(this clip comes from Skream’s Stella Session a few weeks ago. go get it.)

My dubstep collection is in desperate need of more bootleg, white labelish stuff. Perhaps I am just shopping in the wrong places, or not scouring the bins at halcyon regularly enough, but my crate is seriously anemic in the unlicensed remix department.

So dubstep heads: where the bootlegs at? Hook us up in the comments.

Passion Pit - Chunk Of Change

Dude, have you heard Passion Pit? Until recently, neither had I- but if you like somewhat happy and melodic electronica with a catchy vocal, then this one is for you (and me).

Chunk Of Change was originally created as a Valentine’s Day gift for songwriter Michael Angelakos’ girlfriend while attending Emerson College in Boston. The sound can easily be compared to that of The Postal Service.

For me, standout tracks include I’ve Got Your Number, Smile Upon Me, andSleepyhead.

NIN - The Hand That Feeds (Zardonic Remix)

If you’ve been wondering about the dnb remix of “The Hand That Feeds” that you keephearing, then look no further. This Nine Inch Nails remix was made by Zardonic, a dark drum and bass producer from Venezuela.

You can grab it for FREE from Zardonic’s remix.nin.com profile page.

Chase & Status Essential Mix - 09/08/2008

Some might argue that this is old news by now, but I’m going to post it anyway. Chase & Status’s new essential is a must listen for any drum & bass lover. It also has a pretty sweet dubstep section, if that’s more your thing.

Tune of the mix for me is “Pieces” (on Ram Records). White-label promos have been circulating for about a week (good luck finding one outside of eBay), and the full release is due any minute now. Or at least, it better be released soon - I need a copy.

Finally! Pendulum has announced a full US tour of the live band - not a DJ set. Anyone who has been following Pendulum (Live) as of late knows that this is super exciting news.

If you’re not familiar with Pendulum’s new album, In Silico, I strongly suggest you give it a listen. The album’s first singles [ Propane Nightmares, Granite, and The Other Side] are all hits for sure.

Sign up for Pendulum’s mailing list and receive a FREE download of Propane Nightmares (Celldweller Remix). This is my favorite mix of the choon by far, so definitely check it out.

Not-new CD Review #1: Saul Williams, Self-Titled

This ( hopefully ) recurring segment will be about music that:
a) somehow escaped our attention when it came out [hence the not-new part]
b) is not super-well-known
and
c) something we liked [negative reviews are no fun to write, and nobody likes a hater].

Anyway, first up is Saul Williams’ 2004 self-titled album:

If you’re like me, you first heard about this guy via his most recent album, The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust!, a well publicized pay-what-you-want collaboration with Trent Reznor. Also if you’re like me, your interest was piqued, and you immediately had a look at his discogs page in search of more.

Like on Tardust, Williams combines spoken-word poet, hip-hop emcee and rockstar personas alongside distorted-guitar-meets-drum-machine instrumentals - after hearing this, it’s easier to see his recent NIN-ification as a logical progress of his regular gig, as opposed to the weirdo experiment that some might have seen it as. That’s not in any way meant to say the two albums are homogeneous, however; the whole thing just makes more sense to me now.

In other news, Slam just found its way onto my Netflix queue.

Noteworthy tracks:
Surrender (A Second to Think)
Telegram
Act III Scene 2 (Shakespeare) (featuring Zack de la Rocha!? How have I not heard this before?)
and (despite the weirdness of it being licensed for a recent Nike ad)
List of Demands (Reparations)

also check out his 2003 EP, Not In My Name.

M.I.A. playing at McCarren Park Pool

On June 6th, the super Indian babe M.I.A. will be playing at McCarren Park Pool, accompanied by Toronto electronica band Holy Fuck.

I’m super excited because I’m a huge M.I.A. fan, but have yet to see her live. If you’re not familiar with her music, you should check out her (omg) hit single, “Paper Planes.” If that floats your boat, then why not give her two albums a listen: “Kala” (2007) & “Arular” (2005). I enjoy both of them.

Tickets cost $37.50, and go on sale March 29, 2008 at 11am.

hey everyone, the fake leak of my album is apparently popping up all over the internet. i keep getting emails/myspaces about it

if possible, spread the word that it is a fake.

it doesn’t sound anything like the new album. it doesn’t sound anything like any live sets i’ve ever done. i’m not going to judge it, but everything (sample source, quality, production) is VERY different from what i’m doing. i had nothing to do with it.

thanks

Gregg

If you weren’t able to grab tickets to Hot Chip’s show on April 12th at Terminal 5, then tomorrow is your lucky day.

They’ve added another NYC show on April 8th at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Pre-sale tickets go on sale tomorrow, March 21st, at noon for $35 (the password ismadeinbrooklyn).

I like things the way I like them. This is how I like my Mac:

The Dock

I like my dock small. But not too small. In the pre-Leopard days, I would make the dock as small as possible, but now with the new 3D dock background that just looks silly. I don’t like hiding the dock. Magnification is a must (mostly because it looks cool), and I always set it to just under 50%.

As far as non-app dock items go, I always keep it in the following order: Applications Folder, Home Folder, Downloads Folder, (and Trash). I also drag frequently used servers to the dock, just to the right of my Home Folder, for easy access.

Stacks

Display Type

I like to set the Applications and Home Folders to display as a Folder (instead of a Stack). If you don’t do this, the Home Folder will not show the little house icon. Instead, it will inherit the icon of the first item inside of it. That’s stupid, nobody wants that. I do like my Downloads Folder to be displayed as a Stack, though, because its contents are all temporary and that way I know when something is in there or not.

View Content As

For the Applications Folder, it’s view content as a List or bust. That way, you can browse your (billions) of applications in a list, as opposed to a confusing grid. Also, I call shenanigans on Fan mode. I want to like it, I swear, but it has a major flaw. Fan mode orders its items in alphabetical order, but descending (with “A” on the bottom). I can’t handle that, so I use Grid mode (which is just as pretty).

The Desktop

I like big icons. Right now, my desktop icons are set to 84x84. I also like to ‘Show item info’ with a 10pt font, and snap to grid.

Quick Look

I’m addicted to Quick Look. That is all.

Menu Bar

Must have menu bar widgets: Google Notifier, Spaces, battery (if laptop) with percentage showing, .Mac Sync, displays, Airport, volume, and clock (showing seconds) with flashing time separators.

Hot Corners

Top-right corner (which I don’t use as much anymore, since the Mighty Mouse has a lovely squeeze trigger), I like to Exposé - All Windows. Bottom-right corner, disable screen saver. Bottom-left corner, start screen saver.

Function Keys

I like the defaults. I’m addicted to F11 (Show Desktop). It’s just so useful. F8 (Spaces) and CTRL+Arrow (change Space) are pretty useful as well. F9 (Exposé - All Windows) and F12 (Dashboard), I use only when I don’t have my trusty Mighty Mouse. If on a laptop (like my new MacBook), you better believe I check the “Use F1, F2 etc. keys as standard function keys” option. I can’t be bothered to push the function key (in addition to F11) every time i want to see my desktop.

Applications

I’m not going to bother going through all the different apps I use. Maybe some other time. For the most part, though, everything you need is free (well, free + $2000). So there you have it. That’s how I like my Mac. I’m probably forgetting something, but I think you get the idea.
